In yet another industry first, Marley Eternit has become the only roofing manufacturer in the UK to achieve independent carbon footprint certification for a range of products by Carbon Trust Certification, adding to the companys wealth of sustainability credentials.
Sarah Harding, Marketing Manager at Marley Eternit, comments: We are always striving to add value for customers, through the services and support we provide alongside our products. In this particular case, we recognised that investment in carbon measurement would enable customers to make more informed product choices. The carbon footprint certification of our roofing and profiled sheeting products also builds on a long-standing commitment to measuring our environmental performance, which has seen Marley Eternit achieve many industry-firsts, including
ISO 14001 accreditation
BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing for fibre cement, clay and concrete roofing products
Green guide environmental profiles from the BRE
The industry-leading pollution-eating EcoLogic tile.
In addition to the certified carbon footprints of Marley Eternits roofing and profiled sheeting products, customers can also find further information on the environmental performance of all of Marley Eternits façade products, through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). These make it easy for specifiers to get information on the carbon footprint of each product as part of the life cycle assessment that has been undertaken.
Sarah continues: We have worked with the highly reputable Carbon Trust to achieve this certification, and their experience in working with other international blue-chip companies brought confidence to the process. We are delighted to add carbon footprint certification to our offering to our customers, as we know that demonstrating the environmental credentials of the products that they specify is of vital importance, either to meet ever-more stringent environmental targets, or to enhance their own credentials to clients.
Darran Messem, Managing Director of Certification at the Carbon Trust commented, Carbon reduction presents huge opportunities for the construction industry and it is really encouraging to see a company like Marley Eternit strive to provide credible environmental claims regarding products for the companys customers.
The independent carbon footprint certification applies to all of Marley Eternits roofing and profiled sheeting products, and certifies the total amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases emitted in the production and use of the product at every stage throughout its lifecycle. This includes the manufacture, transportation, preparation and usage of each product, right through to its final disposal.
