Following the successful installation of MEA surface water drainage channels on the parking and service areas of the new Mercedes garage at Cheshire Oaks in Chester, Barry Davies of N. R. Davies Ltd in Mold, North Wales was looking for a similar drainage channel but this time required a D400 loading class with a heel resistant slotted iron grating to suit pedestrian as well as vehicular traffic.
SWF Consulting Engineers of Wilmslow, Cheshire had provided the catchment areas for each of the channel runs and had invited various drainage manufacturers to design and size the channels according to the site criteria.
Several of MEA’s competitors opted to go for a 150mm nominal bore channel. This would prove to be a false economy as this wider system, combined with heel resistant gratings, can be almost double the price of the smaller 100mm nominal width units.
MEA were able to provide a free of charge hydraulic design calculation which proved that a 100mm nominal width system could be used on the site and yet still be well within the required capacity based on a rainfall intensity of 50mm per hour.
MEA’s Technical Sales Engineer, Mick Hardisty, proposed the use of MEARIN Expert 100 channels complete with D400 Slim Slot Ductile Iron gratings.
A total of 1,059 metres were supplied and successfully installed on this project.
This extremely strong yet lightweight GRP system enabled N. R. Davies to complete the installation quickly and efficiently.
Throughout, MEA worked closely with both N. R Davies and our distributors, Forward Builders’ Supplies of Ellesmere Port.
MEA were able to deliver each call off to the site within three working days. All Barry Davies and Forward Builders’ Supplies needed to do was request the specific run numbers. This reduced the risk of any potential damage or theft from the site.
