New HQ design to inspire collaboration

The Norwegian Medical Association turned to Metropolis Architecture and Design for a complete revamp of its headquarters. The new design has opened up the interior, with the inclusion of a spectacular triple height atrium flooded with natural light at the heart of the building.

Along with a muted, classic colour palette, the use of natural materials throughout, plenty of greenery and a living wall at entrance level, Metropolis specified Junckers’ Hexparket in Black Oak for the entrance level. The striking hexagonal parquet floor adds a dramatic backdrop to the space, in a rich, deep shade of blackish brown. Using off cuts from Junckers Boulevard flooring, its widest plank floorboard, Hexparket staves are made by hand measuring 370mm on all sides by 20.5mm thick.

A contemporary take on classic parquet flooring, the ridgid geometric pattern based on equilateral triangles is softened and perfectly balanced by the natural grain patterns of the oak – an elegant flooring choice. The new premises are both welcoming and inspiring to members and visitors, with meeting rooms, conference spaces, relaxation and social areas designed to foster inclusion, interaction, learning and cooperation.

Hexparket was designed by Carpenter & Hartmann.
