The Blue Angel is the oldest ecolabel for products and services worldwide. It was initiated in 1978 by resolution of the ministers of the environment of the Federal government and the Federal states and is a German certification for products and providers that are environmentally friendly and produce low emissions promoting good indoor air quality.

The purpose of this certification is to provide better information and protection to the environment and consumers in order to promote environmental quality and health. The Blue Angel also decisively contributes to accelerate the best possible ecological properties and the sustainable development of products. In addition, it is a national emblem of the Federal Ministry for the Environment and Nature conservation.

On an ecological basis, it initiates a performance competition and generates competitive advantages for products which meet these criteria. The basic requirements for attaining the environmental label are the absence of carcinogens and a particularly low level of emissions of organic substances and formaldehyde. Further criteria for achieving the Blue Angel award are no chlorinated or halogenated organic compounds, no N-nitrosamines (carcinogenic), no materials rated as poisonous or very poisonous by EU directives or the German Toxic Substances Act, no phthalates (plasticizers), no substances that are carcinogenic, mutagenic, hazardous to reproduction or embryo toxic.

The Blue Angel corresponds to the requirements of ISO 14024 (type 1, public multi-criteria ecolabel) and may serve as reference of proof for European tender specifications. These eco labels are expressly recommended by the EU program “Green Product Procurement”.

Extended Life Cycle. Raw materials of the highest performance are the basis of future‐oriented environmental sustainability. If you take a look at the environmental sustainability of a product, the holistic product life cycle has to be considered as well. nora® rubber floorcoverings are extremely durable and hard wearing . They have a life expectancy of 25‐30+ years, which conserves natural resources.

So it is obvious that one must pay particular attention to this field. Just with regard to cleaning, a lot of money can be saved when choosing the appropriate system. nora® floorcoverings are easy to maintain since they do not require waxes or coatings. They also do not shrink or crack, so you don’t need to weld the seams or worry about gaps forming which are potential breeding grounds for bacteria and also make cleaning more of a challenge. This reduces costs related to labour, cleaning supplies, water and energy. nora rubber floorings can also be cleaned using the new nora pad system requiring only a pad and water, no cleaning solution is necessary.
