Premium paving for multi-use Royal Highland Centre Scotland

RHASS required a modernised multi-use Pavilion that reflected its heritage
The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) required a new multi-use pavilion building to host events including conferences, weddings, and the renowned Royal Highland Show.

Moving with the times while paying homage to the heritage of the location was essential in this project. Located at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh, the building aimed to provide a flexible, modern design while reflecting the RHASS heritage.

Due to the multi-use of the pavilion, the hard landscaping was equally as important as the interior design. With a high-quality specification throughout, the paving and kerb products needed to compliment the modern aesthetic.

Premium Braemar paving sets off the high-quality finish of RHASS pavilion
Tobermore worked closely with Harrison Stevens Landscape Architects to ensure design aspirations were met for the external area of the new Royal Highland Centre Pavilion.

The design team needed paving with a high-quality finish with the added consideration of trafficability. While the entrance areas will predominantly be used by pedestrians, there is also the possibility of light commercial traffic. Tobermore’s premium block paving product Braemar was the perfect choice, with its superb hard wearing granite surface and long-lasting colours.

Tobermore’s complimentary laying pattern service meant the team could be confident with their final product choices. To add character to the entrance, Braemar in a stunning three-colour mix was chosen. A stretcher bond laying pattern with a 60/20/20 blend of Arran Stone, Jura Grey and Alto Silver was laid.

Braemar fulfilled the design aspirations of the Royal Highland Centre while also exceeding technical requirements. Braemar’s high granite content in its diamond ground finish retains all the hard wearing and long-lasting attributes of natural stone.

Aligning with the vibrance of the main areas, the pedestrian walkways were paved in Sienna Sandstone. Tobermore’s Sienna offers a contemporary block paving with a durable granite aggregate finish. Tobermore’s Fusion kerb added the finishing touch to the project with its striking granite aesthetic.
