PVC beads contribute to sweet smell of success for British Sugar HQ

Renderplas have provided their PVC beads for the new multi-million-pound Head Office for British Sugar in Peterborough, designed by architects to look like a giant sugar cube.

To complement the contemporary glass exterior, 368 linear meters of Renderplas PVC shadow gap profiles have been installed above the skirting boards in the internal pods and around the doors within the partitions.

The sleek minimalist shadow gaps between the walls, skirting boards and door frames create clean, internal lines unimpeded by the traditional use of skirting boards, architraves and cornicing.

Tom Lott, Managing Director of TJL Plastering Ltd, has over 40 years’ experience in the trade, he said: “When working on a large project of this type where deadlines are tight, my team need to work with materials they know won’t fail.”

“Renderplas shadow gap profiles are easy to cut and handle compared with traditional galvanised metal alternatives. For us this means a quick turnaround, less waste and a far neater finish, a PVC weld can be used to seal any joints ensuring perfect, smooth lines.”

Renderplas PVC profiles are impact resistant, a particularly useful feature at skirting level where there is a large amount of footfall and cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and mops may be in regular contact with the profiles.

The PVC used to manufacture the shadow gaps is UV stable ensuring that the large amounts of light from the glass facades will not discolour the profiles. Renderplas shadow gap beads are also fully recyclable; a key feature for any low energy building solution.
