After the success of Sapphire’s recent roundtables, they are hosting an event at The Gherkin in the City of London to explore the topic ‘Reducing Fire Spread in High-Rise Residential Buildings’. The event will include a roundtable in the morning followed by a range of CPDs educating attendees on important aspects of reducing the risk of fire spread on high rise residences.
CPDs will include a BSI Balcony Standard presentation from our Technical Director to discuss changes to the balcony standard and his recommendations as a member of the BSI Committee. There will be two CPDs targeted specifically at balcony fires and two for technical balcony information exploring legislation and material choice to add clarity to the complex field of balcony design.
Sapphire will also be joined by Quelfire who will deliver a CPD on passive fire protection discussing the importance of early involvement to ensure compliant installations and solutions available.
Regulations in the industry have dramatically changed since the Grenfell tragedy, with the introduction of the cladding ban in December of last year. As a result of the lack of clarity within this new legislation, the industry is facing the challenge of meeting new standards, while remaining uncertain of what is required.
Fire risk on high rise residential buildings is still a serious issue facing the industry and with the numerous balcony fires over the past year it’s clear progress must be made quickly. Sapphire’s event intends to educate attendees and facilitate discussion to improve the government standards and the safety of residents.
