SILVALarch™ Siberian Larch Cladding

Silva Timber

Silva's FSC® certified kiln dried Siberian Larch boasts an impressive set of natural attributes that make it ideally suited for use as timber cladding. This unique wood species not only has a pleasing appearance but is also durable, stable and dense and will therefore provide excellent long term performance even in the harshest of environments.

SILVALarch™ Siberian Larch cladding will suit any kind of setting and is therefore frequently specified for all types of residential and commercial projects, ranging from supermarkets to individual self-build homes.

The timber used to manufacture this product is cut from sustainable old growth logs harvested in the Irkutsk region of Siberia. Wood fibre from this harsh climate (long cold winters) is much sought after for its natural growth characteristics – exceptionally slow growing therefore dense with tight grain and relatively few well interspersed small sound knots.

FinishesAlthough Siberian Larch is naturally durable, the application of a protective coating will improve its dimensional stability and increase its service life. However, it can be a difficult species to coat successfully. Its high density and the presence of resins can prevent many coatings from properly adhering to the wood surface. As a result, most film-forming finishes will fail, so it is necessary to use a coating system which is able to penetrate. When factory coating Silva uses a specially formulated coating system which penetrates the wood surface to provide long-lasting protection with minimal maintenance.

ColoursThe overall colour of Siberian Larch is a lustrous golden-brown. However, closer inspection will reveal a range of colours varying from the creamy white of the narrow sapwood to the straw-coloured or dark, reddish-brown of the heartwood. When Siberian Larch is exposed to UV light it will turn silver-grey, unless protected by a pigmented surface protection.
Acoustic propertiesSiberian Larch wood can dampen vibrations. This makes it particularly effective for use as interior panelling, as it helps to reduce or confine noise.
Thermal propertiesInsulation plays a vital role in modern buildings. Like all woods, Siberian Larch is an excellent thermal insulator due to air pockets within its cellular structure.
