Contractor: DJ Bagot Flooring, Wood Green, London
Type of works: supply and installation of the Polyflor Mystique PUR range of low-maintenance heavy-duty sheet vinyl floorcoverings for main hall refurbishment.
The refurbishment of the main hall at Sir William Burrough School in Limehouse, London, features the schools own vibrantly coloured floor design, incorporating a variety of shades from the Polyflor Mystique PUR range of low maintenance heavy-duty sheet vinyl floorcoverings.
Central to the design is the schools three-dimensional star logo, produced in Black and White shades from the Polyflor Standard XL range, and encircled with Mystique PUR Azurite, as well as eight other colours from the Mystique PUR palette. The colours radiate outwards from the logo in two repeats to create an eye-catching rainbow effect.
The design was recreated via the Polyflor Expressions Design Service, which uses computerised water-jet cutting techniques to create precise shapes and styles for inlaid decoration, and was installed by flooring contractor DJ Bagot Flooring, of Wood Green, London.
The bold, bright colours in the Mystique range lent themselves perfectly to our design concept, says the schools facilities manager, Neil Smith. And the products polish-free, low-maintenance and high-performance characteristics are essential for such a heavily trafficked area of the school.
Non-directionally patterned Polyflor Mystique PUR is available in 16 decorative shades and features a high-quality polyurethane reinforcement which, combined with a superior closed surface finish, facilitates a low-cost, polish-free maintenance regime for the lifetime of the flooring, achieving savings of up to 48% compared with untreated vinyl flooring.
In common with all Polyflor sheet vinyls, Polyflor Mystique PUR can be welded at the seams and to coved skirtings to create continuous, impervious surfaces that offer no sanctuary to dirt and bacteria.
The product has been independently tested and the results demonstrate that Polyflor Mystique PUR inhibits the growth of MRSA on the flooring. An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection. The flooring also achieves the highest possible A rating under the BRE Green Guide to Specification scheme.
Polyflor Mystique PUR meets the performance requirements of BS EN 649 and is fully tested to fire safety standard BS EN 13501-1, and certified as Class Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria BS EN ISO 9239-1 >8kw/m² and the mandatory requirement of BS EN ISO 11925-2 pass.
