Type of works: design, manufacture and installation of Polyflor's Nebula Blue Polysafe Astral PUR anti-slip floor tiles.

Highly decorative Nebula Blue Polysafe Astral PUR with Polyflor’s super-strength polyurethane reinforcement (PUR) perfectly complements the sea theme decoration in the toilet areas of St. John’s C.E. Primary School in London.

Chosen for its aesthetic qualities, sustainable slip-resistance and ease of maintenance, Polysafe Astral PUR meets the aesthetic requirements and provides a safe walking surface for pupils that is easy to maintain.

Headmaster Graham Gun commented: “Providing an attractive and safe environment for our pupils is extremely important to us. The toilet areas present an increased risk of spillages and Polysafe Astral PUR provides an effective solution and on top of that, it is much easier to clean which reduces maintenance costs and keeps the floor looking pristine.”

Polysafe Astral PUR incorporates new Polysafe™ PUR, a UV-cured, cross-linked super-strength reinforcement that offers inherent maintenance benefits, optimum appearance, outstanding colour retention and improved soil release.

The incorporation of PolysafeT™ PUR also means that life cycle maintenance costs of up to 60% are achievable over a 15-year period when compared to untreated safety flooring using a micro mop maintenance regime (British Institute of Cleaning Science). Using this micro mop regime on Polysafe Astral PUR also reduces chemical usage, energy intensive cleaning and water consumption.

Four Star Flooring’s Darren Wright oversaw the project: “The Polysafe range is perfect for just about any educational environment. As well as the slip resistance, cleanability and appearance, Astral PUR offers additional hygiene benefits and environmental credentials.”

Independent test results demonstrate that Polysafe Astral PUR inhibits the growth of MRSA while contributing to a healthy BREEAM score thanks to the product’s A+ BRE Global Environmental Rating in major use areas such as education and healthcare (ENP 336).

All Polysafe ranges comply fully with HSE and UK Slip Group Guidelines to give sustained slip resistance throughout its guaranteed life, achieving 36+ on the RRL Pendulum wet test (Slider 96/Four S rubber) with a surface roughness of 20 microns and above.

As well as compliance with HSE Guidelines, Astral PUR also meets the performance requirements of EN13845, the European standard for safety flooring.

Additional Polyflor products, including Polysafe Standard and Polyflor XL Standard, have been used extensively throughout the school.
