Sustainable Aggregate

Ballast Phoenix Ltd

IBAA (Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate) is produced from the residual ash left in an EfW (Energy from Waste) plant which is used to incinerate household waste and recover the energy from household waste.

This process by its nature has many positive attributes with regard to the environment and sustainability which include reducing the waste going to landfill, reducing reliance on primary aggregates. In addition to these points the finished product also has further positive aspects e.g. it has a low bulk density so more (volumetrically) can be transported per vehicle movement, the IBA (Incinerator bottom ash) absorbs C02 (Carbonation) which occurs when highly alkaline materials are exposed to atmosphere.
