Sustainable timber framed building for School

Sustainable timber framed building for School

Fordingbridge has provided a new sustainable timber framed sixth form building for Fairmead School. This new sixth form building provides a spacious two-storey building with large entrance atrium and generous teaching spaces on both floors, accessed by a passenger lift.

Fordingbridge worked closely with the client to deliver a full turnkey package of design, planning and completion on site, on time and on budget. The building has many special features including:
• A hybrid steel and sustainably sourced FSC accredited glulaminated timber-frame
• Low maintenance, highly insulated, composite panel walls and roof; joints are sealed for air tightness to reduce heat loss from the building
• An underfloor heating system supplied by an air sourced heat pump; this system provides a comfortable even heat with exceptionally low-energy demand
• Argon filled double glazed window units with low emission coating
• Automatic PIR controlled lighting system
