Sustainable timber framed building for Tops Day Nursery

Fordingbridge completed a sustainable timber framed nursery building for Tops Day Nursery. Designed in collaboration with Thorpe Wheatley Architects, the building was constructed on site in 12 weeks.

The nursery includes:
• An entrance lobby
•Reception office
• Disabled WC
• A large open plan play space divided into two by a low wall
• Sleep room
• Training room / second office
• Baby changing room with sink unit
• 2 kitchens for meal preparation
• Infant toilets leading off main play space for easy supervision
• Laundry room
• refuse store
• External play space with integral canopy for protection from rain and sun

The sustainable building features:
• A sustainably sourced FSC accredited glulaminated timber-frame
• Low maintenance, highly insulated, composite panel walls and roof. Joints are sealed for air tightness to reduce heat loss from the building
• A natural ventilation system creates a pleasant environment with low energy demand
• An under floor heating system supplied by an air source heat pump. This system provides a comfortable even heat with exceptionally low energy demand
• Argon filled triple glazed window units with low emission coating
• Automatic PIR controlled lighting system
