Tabard Square is the development of one of the largest brownfield sites in London. It comprises 572 residential units (of which 37% are affordable) and includes a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses located in two contemporary-style buildings and a tower standing at 22 storeys high.
The site was divided into 3 blocks. Each block catered for rented, key worker, housing association, private lease and purchase, all set around a landscaped square in the centre of the development with underground parking and plant facilities.
The different disciplines of ownership meant in some instances an alternative level of ironmongery specification and finish was required for each flat.
Yannedis worked closely with the architect and other design team members to provide a solution which met quality and budget as well as the DDA and the fire engineering solution.
Different specification levels had been designed into the development requiring a range of metal finishes with both contract and architectural levels of the hardware and locking systems used.
The scheme has already received a number of accolades including: Major Housing Project of the Year at the Building Awards 2008; a Commendation from The Civic Trust Awards 2008; Overall Winner of the 2007 Housing Design Awards; and was awarded a Building for Life Gold Standard by CABE and the Home Builders Federation in 2007.
