With a proven track record in supplying Tarmac’s TOPFLOW products both nationally and in West Yorkshire, Dragon Underfloor Heating were selected as one of the contractors to supply TOPFLOW SCREED C BELITEX in the region.
Dragon’s client was completing a renovation of a large property on New Lane in Shelf near Halifax but the build programme had slipped behind schedule. Dragon were tasked with supplying and installing a full ground floor underfloor heating system covered with a screed which could be tiled on within a month.
A traditional anhydrite based flowing screed at a depth of 50mm would dry at 1mm per day for the first 40 days, then 0.5mm per day after that, taking 60 days in total. Using the underfloor heating system would reduce the drying time but not enough to allow the client to install the tiles within the scheduled timeframe.
Considering the required drying time, it was decided that an anhydrite screed would not be suitable. As Tarmac had recently introduced TOPFLOW SCREED C BELITEX to West Yorkshire via Dragon and supplied from Tarmac’s Dewsbury plant, it was clear that using this product would provide an ideal solution to the drying time issue. With the ability to take floor coverings after 14-21 days, TOPFLOW SCREED C BELITEX would enable Dragon’s client to complete the floor tiling in line with the build programme.
Dragon installed 4m3 of TOPFLOW SCREED C BELITEX on 10 May and the client was able to tile the floor three weeks later. During the tiling process, traditional cementitious adhesives could be used negating the need to use more expensive specialist adhesives compatible with anhydrite based screeds.
In addition to an improved thermal conductivity over traditional sand/cement screeds and an SR2 quality finish, the fast and clean installation process of TOPFLOW SCREED C BELITEX also highlighted the product’s health and safety benefits.
