The Castle Cove Sailing Club in Weymouth, Dorset

The Castle Cove Sailing Club in Weymouth, Dorset, constructed a new terrace area to provide a viewing platform for the sailing events in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The sailing club required a waterproofing system that could be installed directly to the concrete construction with the works being completed as quickly as possible. It was essential that the system was compatible with timber decking and would provide long-term protection from the elements.

A new waterfront balcony was constructed to provide a viewing platform for the Olympic sailing events.

The BBA-approved Protec System was specified for the works due to its rapid installation times and high waterproofing performance. Timber battens were incorporated into the system to provide fixing platforms for the timber decking and glass balustrade.

Timber battens were installed and encapsulated to provide fixing supports for the timber decking.

The balcony was finished rapidly and with ample time before the beginning of the Olympic Games. The lucky viewers at Castle Cove Sailing Club witnessed many record-breaking performances from Team GB’s sailing team, including Ben Ainslie becoming Britain’s greatest ever Olympic sailor.
