The use of IBAA as a Construction Platform at Truro Eastern District Centre

IBAA was supplied from Blue Phoenix UK, Cornwall Plant at St Dennis for the Truro Eastern District Recycling Centre. This material has been used in creating the structural platform for the project.

The supplied IBAA has contributed 40% of the total imported material requirements for the project (Class 1A).

The platform depth when placed ranges from between 7m in the deepest section to 1m in the shallowest section.

Type 1 IBAA has been used underneath the surface materials (Concrete and Asphalt). Due to the large amount of imported Class 1A IBAA in the platform, the Type 1 capping layer only required placing at a depth of 150mm. The concrete and asphalt surfacing requirement are 250mm thickness over the Type 1 IBAA.

IBAA is an extremely cost-effective material when compared to Primary Aggregates and Blue Phoenix UK is working towards a PAS 2050 compliant Carbon Footprint and will strive for Carbon Trust verification once the project is complete.

The aggregates produced will be carbon neutral using data available from Europe and UK sources. There are also advantages logistically when using IBAA due to the low density of the material allowing for fewer vehicle movements as this gives volumetric advantages over primary materials.
