ThermoSphere and the innovative Building Regulations consultancy, C80 Solutions have joined forces to create the “talkSAP10” initiative in anticipation of the launch of SAP 10 which will change the way homes are heated in the UK.

The current iteration of SAP 10.1 will significantly reduce the carbon emission factor for electricity from 0.519 kgCO2/kWh to 0.136 kgCO2/kWh which will make it the most environmentally friendly and best performing heating method for EPC ratings.

As the energy grid continues to become much greener, electric heating will become the clean heat source of choice. This will help to meet the government’s emissions targets and the aim of the UK being net zero by 2050 and the plan for at least a 68% reduction in gas emissions by 2030. This will also be helped by the government’s plan to ban gas boilers in new builds by 2025.

For developers, heat pumps, electric panel heaters and electric underfloor heating become preferred primary heat sources whilst potentially using an electric boiler with an indirect cylinder for hot water. Harry Hinchliffe, Energy Consultant and BREEAM Assessor at C80 Solutions said:
