Timber and Steel Canopy for Salford Development

Timber and Steel Canopy for Salford Development

A dynamic new housing project is benefiting from Broxap’s 75 years of design and manufacturing experience.

Working alongside Morgan Sindall Construction, at the prestigious New Bailey development in Salford, Broxap has created a bespoke mild steel and hardwood timber canopy, giving residents and visitors the chance to take advantage of sophisticated courtyard seating.

It applied the latest 3D computer aided design (CAD) technology to manufacture and install a stylish geometric canopy as part of a 199-apartment building.

Featuring a unique, precision-cut timber slat roof, the structure forms a stunning link between riverside buildings, giving a modern yet natural feel.

The family firm was invited to put forward its ideas after previously working with contractor Morgan Sindall Construction, which was appointed to deliver Plot A7, the third residential building at The Slate Yard in the New Bailey development area of Salford.

Features of the 21-storey development include access to a wide range of communal facilities at ground level, plus landscaped seating, areas for socialising and outdoor leisure amenities such as table tennis.

The canopy manufactured and installed by Broxap forms an integral part of this outside area, offering year-round shelter to residents as well as a pleasant public access point.

Working from its own 3D model, Broxap was able to engineer a safe working structure and achieve the desired delicate style with complete accuracy.

It ensured the canopy build was completed on time and on budget by resolving material and stability issues at the drawing stage and overseeing set-out on site, liaising with the contractor and its architects throughout the process.

As part of its work at New Bailey, Morgan Sindall Construction is delivering a series of commercial and residential initiatives designed to improve social, economic and environmental wellbeing within Salford, on the border of Manchester city centre.

At Plot A7, the social value being delivered is currently calculated at about £8 million, almost a quarter of the £32 million total project value.

New Bailey is being delivered by The English Cities Fund, a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and Homes England.

It includes plot C1, a 23-storey tower with a total of 211 apartments, featuring a six-storey podium with an exclusive rooftop garden terrace, designed to enhance residents’ wellbeing.
