Tonbridge Grammar School

Tonbridge Grammar School

Client: Tonbridge Grammar School
Flooring contractor: The Flooring Specialists Ltd
Type of works: supply and installation of Polyflor Mystique PUR flooring with bespoke logo design.

The Tonbridge Grammar School badge and motto is the first thing to greet pupils, staff and visitors after it was designed into the new reception floor by Polyflor's Expressions Design Service.

Using advanced water-jet cutting techniques to create precise shapes and styles for inlaid decoration, the Expressions Design team used Polyflor XL PU Ruby, Jade, Porcelain and Amethyst shades to inset the eye-catching logo into the Mystique PUR reception floor.

The attractive floor is part of the new, modern teaching and learning facility and sports hall constructed by Rydon Homes Ltd on the school grounds.

"As you enter the building you can't help but notice the wonderfully graphic floor design," commented Julian Pennells, director of The Flooring Specialists Ltd, the commercial flooring contracting business that specified and installed all of the 4,500m2 of flooring products for the first phase of this project.

"It's certainly a feature piece and along with the maintenance benefits offered by the product, the flooring ticked all the boxes for a busy school entrance area."

Around 1,400m2 of non-directionally patterned Polyflor Mystique PUR heavy-duty vinyl flooring, which features Polyflor's high-quality polyurethane reinforcement (PUR), has been installed throughout the reception and corridor areas.

Cross-linked and UV cured for optimum strength, this treatment, combined with a superior closed surface finish, facilitates a low cost, lifetime polish-free maintenance regime, achieving savings of up to 48% compared with untreated vinyl flooring. The PUR feature significantly reduces chemical usage and reduces water usage by up to 55% compared to traditional maintenance procedures.

The product achieves the highest possible BRE Global Environmental A+ Rating (certificate No ENP336 in the Green Guide to Specification) in the major use areas of health and education. This is based on a life cycle analysis approach over a building's life of 60 years.

In common with all Polyflor sheet vinyls, Polyflor Mystique PUR can be welded at the seams and to coved skirtings to create continuous, impervious surfaces that offer no sanctuary to dirt and bacteria. Mystique PUR meets the performance requirements of EN 649 and, fully tested to fire safety standard EN 13501-1, is certified as class Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria EN ISO 9239-1¡Ý8kw/m2 and the mandatory requirement of EN ISO 11925-2 pass.

Polyflor Mystique PUR is manufactured using 25% recycled materials and is 100% recyclable.
