TRADA Technical Tours Confirmed



A number of TRADA seminar and tour developments have now been confirmed for Timber Expo. TRADA will be holding a seminar aimed at University and College Schools of the Built Environment and the timber industry plus a programme of Timber Frame and Fire Tours. This event will take place between 10.00 and 12.00 on the morning of Wednesday 26 September at the Ricoh Arena Coventry. There will be two sessions one focusing on the design competitions TRADA has supported with the second covering some timber related research at UK universities.

Confirmed speakers are:

Elizabeth Turner, TRADA University Liaison Manager giving an overview of the University Engagement Programme being successfully run by TRADA.

Ronnie MacLellan, Senior Lecturer at Oxford Brookes and Stephanie Lewis, the 2012 winner of the Dan Kemp Memorial Pavilion Competition sponsored by Timbmet giving a presentation about the competition and its challenges

David Trejillo, Senior Lecturer at Coventry University explaining about the Design, Build and Test a Beam competition run at Coventry and supported by TRADA

Dr Morwenna Spear, Biocomposites Centre, Bangor University presenting ‘An end to sticky windows- how does modified wood fully enhance dimensional stability’

Dr Robert Hairstans, Centre for Offsite Construction and Innovative Structures, Edinburgh Napier University giving an Overview of research into home-grown timber being carried out at Edinburgh Napier.

The seminar will be an opportunity to bring together academics, students and the timber industry to showcase the aims and successes of TRADA’s University Engagement Programme. It is a free event and registration is easy. Further details on the whole show can be found at www.timber-expo.co.uk

TRADA has also arranged a programme of Timber Frame and Fire Tours at Timber Expo 2012 to highlight the latest solutions in timber frame and fire during construction. TRADA Technology specialists will provide an informed commentary on the technical and regulatory drivers behind them. The Timber Frame and Fire Tours will be offered twice daily, 10:00 – 11:00 am and 2:30 – 3:30 pm. The tour is FREE to attend for all Timber Expo visitors and will last up to an hour. Spaces, however, will be limited and will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
