MacMat®

Geomats are used to provide immediate erosion protection to vulnerable soil surfaces, whether the erosion force is from rain, stormwater runoff, hydraulic action or wind. They are designed to support the revegetation of those soil slopes by reinforcing delicate root systems as they develop. Synthetic geomats have a longer life than biodegradable mats to provide longer term protection and root reinforcement.

MacMat® is Geomats are a 3 dimensional matrix of polymer monofilamentsmade of synthetic material filaments. The filaments are heat-tangled together to form a three-dimensional, highly deformable and of high porosity (typically over 90% voids)normally around 90% or even higher) mat layer. These voids contain and entrap soil, holding it on the slope to sustain vegetation rather than being washed off. Geomats are a suitable permanent long-term solution able to manage erosion control problems in either dry or wet environments. These mats can properly protect a slope from the erosion caused by the water flux of rain drops, rills or rivers. Where the erosive forces are higher, a thicker MacMat®, or stronger MacMat® are selected.

MacMat® HS
MacMat® HS is the next generation of high-performance geomats, combining a three-dimensional polymeric matrix geomat reinforced with Maccaferri’s high-strength Steelgrid system. It is used for demanding slope face stabilisation applications which require a combination of erosion protection and superficial stabilisation. More often used with soil nails or anchors, MacMat® HS is designed to support the revegetation of the slope being protected and as such it is installed in intimate contact with the slope.

MacMat® R
Where the forces on the mat are greater, a stronger mat is needed: the solution is the MacMat R family. These reinforced geomats are a composite where the 3D polymeric mat structure is embedded within a reinforcement grid that can be either a double twisted steel wire mesh or a synthetic geogrid. This composite offers combined benefits; that are comparable to the:

• Erosion control properties of a mat
• Strength, punch resistance and while preserving the reinforcement properties of a synthetic or metallic geogrid reinforcement.

The different types of reinforcement offer provide additional and specific attributes to satisfy a wide variety of multi-function tasks. Peculiar performances. For example this reason, MacMat® R this composite can provide the very high tensile strengths and high stiffness required (especially relevant for soil nailing applications, or providing high shear resistance in hydraulic erosion control applications) and is therefore able to satisfy a huge variety of multi-functional tasks.
