Danish hotel The Monica is designed to be a home away from home. Where every visitor feels like a personal guest of the owner, Monica Conradsen. What better colour palette to spruce up this beloved boutique hotel than the Nordic Edit from Farrow & Ball?
The Nordic Edit
The Nordic Edit contains 24 paint shades from the Farrow & Ball palette, each one carefully chosen to celebrate Scandinavia.
In contrast to the idea that Scandi style is mainly neutral colours, this palette shows the true vibrancy of the region, from vivid green to deep red. It made the perfect starting point for decorating an innovative Danish hotel keen to buck the trend of minimalist, neutral hotel interiors.
Exterior Transformation
Weather-resistant and highly durable, the exterior paint finishes from Farrow & Ball are impressively long-lasting, designed to stay looking their best for up to six years. So, it’s no surprise Monica chose to put the wide range of colours available to good use.
At the front of the hotel, vivid green Danish Lawn on the front door makes a bold first impression. Meanwhile, at the back of the building, bright blue Serge on the back door paired with complementary Etruscan Red on nearby windowsills creates a picturesque backdrop for the outdoor seating area. Three simple additions of colour have turned the exterior from every day to extraordinary.
Inside the Hotel
Stepping inside the newly transformed hotel, guests are met with carefully curated, characterful colour schemes in every room.
From the brick red of Copenhagen Roof in a bedroom to the inviting Drawing Room Blue bookcase in the library, both private and shared spaces feel simultaneously familiar and luxurious.
This atmosphere helps deepen the impression of being a guest in someone’s home, rather than in a hotel, a key element of Monica’s vision.
Even practical spaces that can easily be overlooked when decorating were carefully considered, such as the deep Brinjal and Mahogany boot room and the sunny Babouche utility room.
With just a simple coat of paint, these spaces are not only functional, but they also now add to the overall feel and experience of staying at The Monica.
