What is Thermal Insulation?

Insulation, also known as heat insulation or thermal insulation, is designed to prevent the transfer of heat through the building envelope and limit energy transfer between two spaces that are not the same temperature.

Heat energy is transferred by material conduction or convection currents. Heat loss through walls is prevented using materials installed between interior and exterior walls which reduce heat loss by conduction and also prevent air from circulating in the wall cavity, reducing heat loss by convection.

Thermal Insulation is important for achieving thermal comfort for a building’s occupants.
