A Guide To External Ground Protection & How To Use It

To learn more, see here.

External ground protection mats are essential tools that are frequently used in the construction sector to safeguard the ground from large machines, increase security, and boost project productivity. They are especially helpful when rainy weather can make the ground muddy and unsafe for machines or cars to drive on.

By selecting the appropriate ground protection solutions, you may reduce environmental harm and make your construction or landscaping project safer.

What is External Ground Protection?

Protecting existing ground surfaces, such driveways and lawns, against erosion and damage is known as ground protection. Ground protection must be employed by construction workers when operating heavy gear.

Ground protection materials are robust, non-slip surfaces that have been created to not only protect the ground from heavy machinery but also the weather and foot traffic.

What are the benefits of External Ground Protection?

Prevents Damage to Ground

Preserving the ground's natural state is the primary advantage of ground protection products. The weight of large machinery or foot traffic is distributed by mats and other ground protection materials, which helps to lessen soil compaction, which can erode the ground and interfere with drainage.

Cost Effective

Businesses aim to avoid causing harm to their customers' property during building projects so they won't have to pay to have it repaired. Businesses can prevent or limit the expenses related to repairing or restoring the land after the project is finished by safeguarding the ground.

Quick to Install or Remove

If you need to use ground protection on a construction site, another huge benefit is the fact that they are quick and easy to install and remove.

Different Types of External Ground Protection

There are a variety of ground protection products that you can use.

Heavy Duty Access Mats: This high-quality mat is made from 100% recycled HDPE, and equipment or vehicles weighing up to 80 tonnes can use it. They are very versatile and are a popular choice for many large construction sites.
Hi-Vis Ground Mats: These heavy-duty ground mats are designed to stand out on sites with low light and low visibility. They clearly mark access routes, have non-slip surfaces for both vehicles and pedestrians, and as they weigh 36 kg each, they can be easily laid by two people.
Safe Site Matting: Its interlocking design means it is quick and easy to assemble and safe to install. These mats can be used on any surface and are perfect for use as walkways or crossing points over roads.
Trackway Mats: Made from tough and durable HDPE, this ground protection material has non-slip patterns on both sides, and it is suitable for larger loads, up to 160 tonnes, depending on ground conditions.
Premium Ground Protection Mats: Manufactured from 100% recycled LDPE, these mats are extremely versatile, and with two lifting handles on each end, they can easily be moved around a construction site. These mats are perfect for creating walkways and access routes for smaller plants, equipment & vehicles.
Interlocking floor mats: This matting tile system is made from hard-wearing, impact-resistant recycled PVC. These mats are perfect for protecting flooring from heavy foot traffic, such as patios and decking.
Damp Proof Membrane: Although this is predominantly used to prevent moisture from rising into a building, it can be used to protect newly laid floors and gardens.
