Furnitubes have a quick word with Catherine on what International Women's Day means to her, plus a few valuable words of advice for anyone thinking about a career in design and manufacturing.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
It’s a celebration of the achievements of women and a reminder of the hard work that paved the way for women today and the work that still needs to be done to support all women internationally. International Women's Day reminds me of all the wonderful strong women in my life.

Tell us about someone who has inspired you over your career?
In our industry, I am humbled by some of the Landscape Architects who transform run down areas in to spaces of outstanding beauty and meaning. As an Entrepreneur, I was fortunate to work with a passionate, completely crazy entrepreneur in my twenties who taught me that everything is possible, never take no for an answer and have fun.

What do you love the most about working in the manufacturing and street furniture industry?
I love seeing our products and schemes make a real difference to people’s lives. I love knowing that people are spending more time outside in a lovely environment either together or peacefully on their own. I love knowing that we are contributing to a more sustainable future and I love providing jobs and career opportunities to wonderful people.

Tell us about one of your favourite architectural structures
Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright because it is so integrated with its surroundings, the forest and waterfall. It's the perfect balance between man-made and nature. I would feel peaceful there.

You have the opportunity to spend the day outdoors, where do you go?
That’s so tough – I love being outdoors, usually running or walking. It has to be high up in the mountains, ideally with a crystal clear lake and a picnic.

Lastly, what advice would you give to women considering a career in your field?
Be curious and ask questions. Speak up and look for opportunities. Find great mentors who will be prepared to share their experience and encourage and champion you.
