Ahmarra advocate the use of fire-resistant doorsets

The role of the fire doorset is to prevent fire from spreading from its source to other parts of the building by effectively closing off the room in which the fire started.

The BM TRADA Q-Mark Fire Door Manufacturer Scheme has been designed to allow fire-door manufacturers to demonstrate that their doors meet the standards required, and to provide ongoing reassurance that their product is fit for purpose.

Ahmarra is one of the few specialist fire doorset manufacturers who can also offer an installation service with the ability to certify every aspect of the performance of a doorset. They are members of the BM TRADA Q-Mark Fire Door Manufacturer Scheme, one of the industry's leading third party schemes as well as being members of the BM TRADA Fire Door Registered Installer Scheme.

This comprehensive certification for timber fire doors ensures that performance, production and installation is checked regularly through audit testing and inspections. The scheme has been designed to allow fire-door manufacturers to demonstrate that their doors meet the standards required, and to provide ongoing reassurance that their product is fit for purpose.

'Fire Doors that are not manufactured and installed responsibly propose a significant risk factor and it is alarming that the vast majority of fire door installations are made by contractors buying all the components separately and constructing the assembly on the building site. If fire doors are not installed properly, their fire-resistance can be seriously compromised. " says Tim Doran, MD of Ahmarra Door Installations.

The Q-Mark certification, as well as excellent environmental credentials in terms of FSC/PEFC certification, has enabled Ahmarra to meet the supply chain criteria for many of the UK’s largest companies. This includes major construction companies, hotel chains and perhaps most notably, BAA for whom they have been supplying and installing doorsets since 2006.

The many benefits demonstrated by the use of factory-hung fire rated doorsets are becoming widely recognised, as more and more contractors are advocating their use. Major savings in time and money can be achieved by specifying and using pre-hung doorsets and the risk of the fire-rated performance being compromised, by inexperienced site labour, is greatly reduced.

Impending changes in the way doorsets are certified will mean that more customers will appreciate the peace of mind afforded from dealing with a single company for manufacture and installation of their doorsets.

Ahmarra is one of the UK’s leading architectural doorset manufacturers and installers across all sectors including commercial, hotel, health, education, airport and leisure. Ahmarra have worked with leading building contractors, architects and interior designers to complete a range of outstanding projects.
