Albion Valves (UK) Limited has been in the industrial heating and valve market for over 40 years, selling exclusively through their network of independent distributors.
Albion’s aim is to supply a readily available, complete, quality valve solution alongside excellent cradle-to-grave support and service.
Albion have recently introduced a new Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) into their range – the ART 671. This now completes their range of PRV’s as it boasts valves from ½” (15mm) to 12”, with a choice of connections (Screwed M/M, Screwed F/F, Compression, and Flanged) and with a variety of pressure ratings including PN16, PN25, and PN40. The whole range is WRAS Approved too! View the whole range here - https://www.albionvalvesuk.com/part_type/pressure-reducing-valve/
PRV’s are an important part of a pipeline when it comes to reducing water within HVAC and potable water systems. The importance of this has been magnified by the government’s Plan for Water which was published in April 2023 which outlined how it will tackle rising demand for this valuable resource. One of the ways it plans to do this is to reduce water use per head of population by 20% by 2030. This means cutting water usage in homes and other buildings. Considering that the UK uses around 14 billion litres of water per day, with estimates that this will rise to 18 billion litres by 2050, it is essential to reduce this figure to prevent severe shortages in the coming years.
PRV’s provide a practical way of doing this. Take a tap outlet which is open for five minutes at 5 bar. It will pass around 15 litres to 20 litres per minute. However, if a PRV is applied to reduce the pressure to 3 bar, the volume of water from the tap drops to 12 litres to 15 litres over the same period, a saving of 25%. This works well in domestic settings, but if we extrapolate that to washroom sinks around a typical office building, it is easy to see why PRVs are invaluable for helping to reduce water waste. It may seem like a small step, but controlling water pressure this way can save significant amounts.
The government is also suggesting expanding the EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) issued to domestic and commercial buildings to include a grade for water efficiency, allowing occupiers to make more informed decisions.
Transporting water around a building can be an energy-hungry process, so it is no surprise that energy efficiency and reducing water consumption go hand in hand. So, as well as PRV’s that assist in reducing water waste, Albion also have a wide range of valves that have been designed and manufactured to support the effective and efficient operation of hydronic systems in commercial buildings and dwellings.
Albion’s experience working with engineers and contractors who deliver these efficient systems means that they have developed products that are high quality and straightforward to specify and install. Alongside this, their Project Support services prove to be popular amongst the consultants and contractors within the industry too. These services include a dedicated team that offer assistance from design to handover and can provide quality supporting documentation such as labelled drawings, bill of materials, and professional technical submittals in industry leading turnaround times!
