Allenby Connaught PFI project, Tidworth and Aldercot, Wiltshire

Contractor: Tyndale Flooring Ltd
Type of works: installation of iQ Optima and Safetred Spectrum.

Tarkett’s iQ Optima and Safetred Spectrum floorcoverings have been installed as part of the £7 billion Allenby/Connaught PFI project in Tidworth and Aldershot, Wiltshire, which has already produced 500 new or refurbished houses for army personnel and their families. The new barracks at Tidworth comprise 28 new buildings providing 452 single en-suite bedrooms for senior and junior ranks, a regimental headquarters, two mess facilities, a large joint diner, leisure facility, workshops, training buildings and storage. Tarkett’s flooring solutions were chosen for the mess facilities and dining hall.

Adrian Bonnett of Tyndale Flooring who carried out the installation noted: "Tarkett products are very hardwearing and flexible making them easy to work with. We are very pleased with the results on this project."

Over 4,000m2 of iQ Optima was installed in the large joint diner at Tidworth, while a further 2,300m2 was used at Aldershot. As a homogeneous vinyl flooring, Optima delivers tough performance in a range of exciting colours that allow true creative expression. These include retroinspired Chilli, Orange and Lime, through to more neutral Beiges, Sand and Khaki. Made with high-quality raw materials and featuring Tarkett’s third generation PUR reinforcement, Optima offers the best life cycle costs on the market, needing no wax or polish for life. Maintenance costs can be reduced by up to 30% as Optima only requires the minimum of heavy, wet cleaning, thereby limiting consumption of water and chemicals and helping to protect the environment, fitting well with the sustainable development policies set out by the MoD.

Safetred Spectrum was specified for the mess facilities to provide enhanced slip resistance and ease of maintenance in this busy area. As part of Tarkett’s Safetred safety flooring range, this heavy-duty vinyl floorcovering features an R10 slip resistance rating and is manufactured to EN13845, meaning the slip resistance properties will be sustained throughout the product’s life. Available in 20 colours,
Safetred Spectrum is ideal for areas where attractive design is also important, while the Safety Clean PUR reinforcement provides a durable and easy to clean surface, considerably reducing maintenance costs.
