A new build, barn style property in rural Norfolk was originally designed with PVC-U windows and doors in mind. However, when the buyers started working with the developers to finalise the specification of their dream home, they made the decision to switch from PVC-U to aluminium. This reduced the width of the sightlines whilst increasing the size of the glazed area to perfectly frame the views and let more light in to the property.
The stunning installation, in AluK throughout, features both BSF70 bi-folding and 58BD French doors, as well as large fixed, picture windows and open out casements in our 58BW system. Double height aluminium windows and the bi-fold doors in particular inject a contemporary edge to what is a traditional barn design, while the smooth Chartwell Green finish complements both the brick stock and the rural setting.
All of the windows and doors on the project were fabricated by AluK customer Alu-tec and were installed by the specialist team at Unitmate of Dereham. Unitmate buys all of its aluminium windows and doors from Alu-tec and Steve May, Unitmate’s Sales Manager, says they make a great team: “We love the AluK products and we know we can always rely on Alu-tec for quality fabrication, great service and prompt delivery.”
The owners of the property are understandably delighted with the results, saying: “We loved the developers’ original vision for the barn with the large picture windows and open out bi-folds. However, for us, it was the switch to aluminium from PVC-U which really made the difference. The AluK products have given us exactly the contemporary feel that we wanted, while the Chartwell Green finish successfully softens the overall look. The advice and service from Unitmate were also outstanding throughout.”
