Project Year: 2021
Product: ASSA ABLOY SL500 Protect
Architect: Ellis Williams Architect
Contractor: Key Air Limited
Project Background: They were approached by Ellis Williams Architect, who were looking for an automatic door with a high level of protection and security, whilst allowing a large flow of footfall for the main entrance of Southern Cross School in Manchester. As an education facility for young people and children, security was of the highest priority without compromising on aspects such as durability, weather tightness and air permeability to support efficiency.
Solution: After careful consideration, our specification advisers recommended the SL500 Protect sliding door. This door is equipped with an EN1627/RC2 anti-burglar tested insulated glazed sliding door system and an SL500 modular operator. It features an integrated mechanical floor lock with a two-way Euro-profile cylinder, an ASSA ABLOY SL5000
operator with battery backup, and a fail-safe electro-mechanical operator lock. It also has a fire alarm interface. The door is equipped with combined activation and threshold presence detection sensors, along with glazed pocket screens that comply with EN16005 safety standards. The door is designed to fully retract, providing a wide and clear opening to accommodate the changing flow of people. Additionally, it is powder coated in AAES standard RAL colour for a sleek finish.
