Overview
A new-build property in Malpas, Cheshire required a practical solution to keep the driveway accessible throughout the winter months. Rather than relying on manual snow clearance or the repeated use of salt, a heated driveway system was specified to provide reliable year-round access to the house and parking area.

The Challenge
The 28m driveway needed to remain safe and operational during periods of snow and ice while complementing the property's external works. The system had to deliver consistent performance in winter conditions and operate automatically with minimal homeowner intervention.

The Solution
HDS designed and installed a bespoke heated driveway system comprising four 4,455W insulated outdoor heating mats, creating two 1.1m-wide heated tracks for both vehicle and pedestrian access. The heating mats were installed onto a tarmac base before being covered with a 50mm tarmac surface.

The installation forms part of a layered construction that includes the driveway base, heating system and finished surface, providing a discreet solution that preserves the appearance of the driveway while protecting it from ice and snow build-up.

Automatic Control
To maximise efficiency and ease of use, the system is controlled by a fully automatic HDS ice and snow melting controller. Using integrated temperature and moisture sensors, the controller automatically activates the heating system when conditions require it, helping to keep the driveway clear without the need for manual operation.
