Rockfon ceiling solutions were recently specified as part of the head office refurbishment for one of the UK’s leading civil engineering companies, BAM Nuttall Ltd. A total of 2500m2 of Rockfon ceilings, including Koral and Hygienic ceiling tiles, were installed throughout the project.
Rockfon ceilings were chosen to provide a high level of acoustic control in the largely open-plan office, plus needed to have easy to clean surfaces. “The new ceilings have a really crisp, clean appearance,” commented Leighton Millis, Project Manager for BAM Nuttall. “We’re delighted with their performance so far.”
Working within a live business environment at the offices in Camberley, Surrey, the principal contractor, Form (one of Rockfon’s Active Installer members), successfully completed the relocation of all staff, furniture and critical IT hardware to ensure minimal disruption to the building’s occupants during the refurbishment programme. Each floor was then stripped out to allow new mechanical and electrical installations, ceilings, glazed and solid partitions, floor finishes, decorations and kitchen and toilet fit outs. The refurbishment was carried out over 36 weeks with each 700m2 floor being completed in a nine-week period.

Rockfon Koral ceiling tiles were installed to the open-plan office areas where they combine an attractive micro-textured white surface with excellent acoustics, fire safety and humidity resistant properties. Easy to clean with a vacuum or damp cloth and available in a variety of sizes and formats, Koral provides the freedom to work with individual and straight-forward ceiling designs.
Rockfon Hygienic ceiling tiles were installed in the kitchen break out and toilet areas where there are more stringent demands on hygiene and cleanability. All Hygienic products have a durable and special white painted surface, incorporating a fungicide to further enhance resistance to the growth of micro-organisms and ensure regular cleanability.
Rockfon products have a 100% stone wool core that does not contain any organic nutrients and cannot be attacked by rot or fungi, helping the ceiling retain its original appearance. Coupled with longevity, durability and high sound absorption, Rockfon stone wool ceilings also provide excellent fire safety, being able to withstand up to 1000°C for 120 minutes without melting.
