Client: MKP Consultants
Type of works: supply of TLX Gold multi-foil.
TLX Gold from Web Dynamics has been specified for use in the roof refurbishment of an 8,000 sq ft Grade II listed oak framed barn conversion in Hampshire, designed in accordance with the widely used BRE Environmental Assessment Method for buildings.
TLX Gold, which has just achieved European Technical Approval (ETA), has been used in the roof refurbishment of Warren Farm Barn, which is set to become the showcase offices for the projects engineering consultants MKP Consultants.
More than 1,000 sq metres of the two-in-one multi-foil and breather membrane has been installed in the barn which will be used as a platform to demonstrate the companys mechanical and electrical engineering design excellence. The product was chosen for a number of reasons, including the need to maintain the existing roof ridge height of the barn.
Simon Davies, Project Manager for MKP Consultants takes up the story: We wanted a product that was going to deliver excellent thermal efficiency, allow simple installation and meet the necessary building requirements of this Grade II listed building. Maintaining the roof line of the building was important and with TLX Gold we were able to do just that, it couldnt have been easier. We then boosted the thermal efficiency with 80mm thick PIR board installed between the rafters from the inside.
As mechanical and electrical design consultants we are aware of claims by some multi-foil manufacturers regarding thermal performance and we looked at every option for this project. What was clear from the start was that TLX Gold had the right credentials and approvals that we were looking for. It was a very quick and simple product to install and the company has been fantastic to deal with.
Technically they are light years ahead of other suppliers. This may be the first project where we have used TLX Gold but we have already specified its use in other residential and commercial projects, continued Mr Davies.
TLX Gold is a unique product with applications throughout the building sector. From social housing and public use to listed buildings and housing refurbishment its versatility and ease of use has been recognised by many Local Authorities, builders and specifiers. The product is available in a 1.2 metres width and 10 metres length which in this instance helped ensured it was an easy and speedy installation.
The product controls water vapour and air movement, allowing a building to `breathe and delivers a comfortable and energy efficient environment. It also reflects heat back into a building to conserve maximum energy and is ideal for use in traditionally hard to insulate buildings. Responding to changes in the environment, the vapour permeability of TLX Gold will also increase when humidity increases and vice versa when humidity falls.
In addition to TLX Gold, Warren Farm Barn has also seen more than 500 sq metres of UV25 breather membrane from Web Dynamics installed in the exterior walls of the barn and plant room which has been built from a timber construction and will house all the mechanical and electrical systems.
