When Barnsley Metropolitan Council relocated from several old office premises around the town to their new offices at Westgate they were able to take advantage of the space saving ability of Qubiqa’s mobile shelving. In total there are seven systems on the 4 floor levels. As all the systems were in an open access situations and therefore open to view, the aesthetics of the system were very important and this made Qubiqa a clear favourite over the competition.

Working closely with the space planners, architect, builder and finally the client too, specific areas were allocated for the mobile shelving and Qubiqa took care of the weight distribution by installing extra floor pedestals underneath the raised floor to spread the weight of the systems properly. The bays of shelving were fitted with shelves, lateral hanging or in many cases combishelves which can accommodate both on-shelf and lateral hanging type files.

All systems ordered were initially the manual mobile SHADE M9000 but before production was complete, two of these were changed to the Electronic SHADE E9000 for the FINANCE and SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM (INC CHIEF EXECUTIVES) Departments. This was mainly for security reasons as the confidential files in both systems can only be accessed by staff issued with the security swipe 'Transponder' cards.
