When one Yorkshire’s finest period rectories needed the basements waterproofing and transforming into amazing spaces Wykamol and Pure Basement Systems were on hand to help with a design and materials to conform to BS8102.

The north part of the building dates from the 18th Century and sits in 13 acres of grounds but was considered too small by later incumbents and in 1838 the renowned architect James Pritchett added the imposing south elevation. The Old Vicarage faces south opposite the Norman Church in Bossall, a small hamlet 10 miles northeast of York.

Pure Basement Systems and Managing Director Michael Foster has used Wykamol Cavity Drain Type C membranes to waterproof the basement spaces and bring them up to current waterproof standards including insulation and ventilation.

Michael is a CSSW qualified surveyor and understands the implications of this kind of work and especially a building sat alone in its own grounds.

Careful consideration was carried out to look at which drainage and battery back up system would be used and as always Michael chose a twin pumping station to remove any ground water entering the perimeter channel system linking this with a Battery Backup system to give the client piece of mind when they travel abroad.

The system will notify the client if there is a loss of power to the property so an engineer can attend site.

Wykamol cavity drain membranes are manufactured in the UK, another point Michael is passionate about, making sure that the Carbon Footprint is kept to a minimum by not shipping products from Europe.
