Client: Basildon Sporting Village
Type of works: Over 4000m2 of Rockfon ceiling solutions have been installed throughout the centre.

The new Basildon Sporting Village sits in the heart of the Thames Gateway regeneration scheme. The £38million development provides first class sporting facilities for the east of England, and will also be used as a training camp for the 2012 Olympic Games. Over 4000m2 of Rockfon ceiling solutions have been installed throughout the centre.

As supply chain partners to the main contractors, Morgan Sindall, Rockfon were able to value engineer the original ceiling specification to offer more economical products that fulfilled all the design and aesthetic requirements, whilst keeping the project within budget and ensuring the high quality finish demanded by the client.

Paul Clayton, of S & P Architects, (Project Architects) explained the requirements: “We wanted a high quality, humidity resistant ceiling system that would give excellent acoustics. Easy access to the ceiling void was paramount, to aid inspection of the intumescent fire protection to the steel work and underside of composite metal/concrete deck, to the floor above. There was also a requirement for a contrast of texture and coloured tiles within the pool area and Rockfon Polar Colour tiles, in a combination of white and grey finishes, provided an ideal solution.”

Rockfon Polar Colour is available in a range of colours designed to enhance any interior design scheme. Rockfon Scholar ceiling tiles were utilised in the changing rooms and offices, combining an attractive white painted finish with good impact resistance. MediCare tiles were preferred for the corridors to ensure ease of cleaning and access to hidden services. All ceilings were installed by Specialist Contracting Services of Newark, a Rockfon Active Installer.

All Rockfon ceiling tiles are dimensionally stable, even in up to 100% relative humidity, making them ideal for facilities with swimming pools. Made with a non-combustible stone wool core, Rockfon ceilings can withstand temperatures in excess of 1000°C without melting, offering excellent fire safety and user peace of mind.
