Rundum Meir supplied a bespoke side-sliding oak garage door for a private residence on the English east coast, combining specialist timber treatment, precision-engineered curved tracking and automation to complement the property's traditional and contemporary architecture.

The property features a combination of traditional flint and brick construction alongside contemporary extensions. The brief called for a garage door that would complement the surrounding materials and coastal landscape from the outset, without waiting years for the oak to weather naturally.

Specialist timber treatment for coastal environments

Coastal conditions, including salt air, moisture and repeated wet and dry cycles, can accelerate the weathering of natural timber. To achieve the desired silver-grey finish, Rundum Meir applied SiOO:X, a specialist water-based silicate wood protection system that accelerates the natural silvering process of oak.

Applied before installation, the treatment helps protect the timber against moisture penetration while allowing it to breathe and respond naturally to its environment. The exterior face achieves a weathered silver-grey appearance, while the interior retains the warmth and natural character of oak.

Precision engineering and automation

The bespoke side-sliding garage door features precision-engineered curved stainless steel tracking and the Rundum Meir MZ4 automation system for smooth, reliable operation. The sliding mechanism moves neatly along the internal wall when open, helping maintain a clean exterior appearance.

A matching oak side door completes the elevation, creating a coordinated finish across the garage frontage.
