Bespoke play solution for Knebworth Primary School

Bespoke play solution for Knebworth Primary School

In 2010, the children of Knebworth Primary School in Hertfordshire took part in a competition to design a new playground for the school.

After hearing about Setter Play from another school, the head teacher got in touch with Setter to discuss the design options available to them on a restricted budget.

Jonathan Bhowmick, Managing Director of Setter visited the school to discuss possible designs with the head teacher and the competition winners from each year group. Among the winning competition designs that the children had drawn, rollercoasters aside, there was a running theme of boats, which was used as the starting point for Setter to work from.

After further discussions, the approved design presented to the children comprised a scaled down version of the Setter Play Pugwash play unit and part of the Noggin multiplay unit to combine imaginative play with physical activity. The new unit was named Tugboat.

Due to the quality of the service and the designs supplied, the school extended the budget to accommodate the installation of the Tugboat and also to include additional equipment.
An area with musical instruments was installed for more sensory play and 7m rock traverse was added to challenge the older children.

The designs offered by Setter met the schools requirements to promote different types of play and challenge all age groups. The equipment will be enjoyed for years to come by the children.

Following the installation of the Tugboat, Setter has been invited back Knebworth to discuss the options available to improve the play area in the nursery.
