Bickley Primary School, Greater London

Client: Bickley Primary School
Type of works: Wallsorba acoustic panels specified for school sports hall.

All schools now have to comply with the acoustic guidelines in The Building Regulations. Sports halls are often used for a number of activities including indoor sports, assemblies and community events such as evening classes. This makes it particularly important for the hall to have good acoustics to accommodate for all these events.
Poor acoustics can make it particularly difficult to communicate or create excess noise through reverberation during the different activities making the room uncomfortable; people often shout in order to be heard which further exacerbates the problem.
Bickley Primary school had this problem in their main hall which is used for a number of different activities, such as PE lessons, evening classes, school assemblies and music activities.
After discussing the requirements with Soundsorba the most effective and aesthetic solution for this particular project was to use Wallsorba acoustic panels to line the top level of the walls. This product was particularly suitable due to its impact resistance from indoor sporting activities, its high sound-absorbing properties which transformed the acoustics in the room; and also the wide range of colours available to match the decor in the hall.
