Type of works: Tarkett provides safety and comfort for Birmingham City Council’s new care centres for older people.

Birmingham City Council has selected Tarkett’s new Safetred Dimension Wood safety flooring for the bedrooms of four of its new care centres for older people. Offering a practical alternative to carpets, Safetred Dimension Wood is a vinyl floorcovering specially designed for heavy-duty environments where a less clinical, more homely finish is required. The range is available in six wood-effect design options, incorporating all the benefits of Tarkett’s safety flooring.

Fred Currell, Strategic Commissioner, Birmingham City Council’s Adults and Communities, commented: “Safetred Dimension Wood was selected for use in 32 of the 64 bedrooms within each of the centres where we wanted to create a safe, yet domestic feel within the intermediate care service provided in partnership with our local Primary Care Trusts. The product offered a practical solution to maintaining the domestic feel of rooms whilst also meeting National Minimum Care Standards as well as standards in infection control and hygiene required by our Health Partners. Pinnacle Flooring did an outstanding job completing the installations within what turned out to be a rather tight timeframe. Overall, we’re delighted with the results.”

Safetred Dimension Wood offers excellent slip resistance, both wet and dry, and meets the requirements of the manufacturing standard, EN 13845, ensuring that the slip resistance properties will be sustained throughout the product’s life. As with all of Tarkett’s  safety flooring, Dimension Wood is made with a minimum of 25% recycled material, while the Safety Clean PUR surface reinforcement provides improved stain resistance and easier cleaning. The costs of maintenance can be reduced by up to 30% and a 50% saving on energy, water and detergents further enhances the floorings environmental profile.
