Briggs Develops Exclusive Warehouse Operation for Knights Of Old

Briggs Equipment has helped one the of UK’s leading haulage companies set up an exclusive new warehousing operation dedicated to supporting the firm’s recent growth.

Knights of Old, which is the ninth fastest growing Transport company in the UK after seeing its annual turnover increase from around £7 million to more than £30 million over the past 10 years, has recently opened its Hitchin-based warehouse where it has taken delivery of 10 new Yale machines supplied by Briggs.

The half a million pound warehouse development is the result of a new contract that Knights of Old has secured with ones of its largest customers.

Ian Beattie, managing director of Knights of Old, explains: “Our customer requires a very specific application with extremely tight turnaround times. Therefore, we needed a brand new warehouse operation that enables us to meet their specific requirements.”

Knights of Old has enjoyed a six year relationship with Briggs and turned to its materials handling provider for a bespoke solution. Working with racking firm, Dexion, Briggs constructed the warehousing operation within budget and on time.

In addition, Knights of Old has also re-appointed Briggs as its exclusive materials handling provider at its main site in Kettering, Northamptonshire with the supply of 15 new Yale machines.

Ben Wilson, head of national accounts for Briggs Equipment, explains: “We wanted to ensure that Knights of Old could provide the very best service to its customers.

“All of the machines supplied to the Kettering and Hitchin sites include our award-winning Speedshield and BE Fleet systems to significantly reduce overall operational costs. Many also feature the latest techtonix 100 transmission for improved safety.”

Added Ian: “We are very impressed with the Hitchin warehouse and Yale machines. Yet again, Briggs has done us proud in being able to identify the ideal materials handling solution.”

The total fleet at the Hitchin warehouse includes four stand-in pallet trucks, two 2.5 electric counterbalance trucks, a scissor lift, two Narrow aisle flexi machines and a sweeper.

The total fleet at the Kettering site includes 10 2.5 tonne gas powered counterbalance trucks, two electric counterbalance trucks, a 4 tonne gas counterbalance truck, a terberg shunter machine and a sweeper.
