Main contractor: Mitchell Design and Construct Ltd
Project value: £350,000
Type of works: supply and installation of Comar 5P.i thermally broken windows, Comar 6 curtain walling and Comar 7 doors.
Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems, with its approved fabricator Anglia Fixing Ltd, supplied Comar 5P.i thermally broken windows, Comar 6 curtain walling and Comar 7 doors for a new-build industrial project for Canmoor & Kilmartin Developments Ltd, Cambridgeshire. Anglia Fixing had an established relationship with the developers and recommended Comar Systems for the project.
Pressure-equalised, externally glazed, stick-build Comar 6 curtain walling, with standard capping, was selected. External pressure plates, seals and cappings were fixed on internal mullions and transoms to create large contemporary entrances and glazed areas to contrast with the light brick and cladded building.
Comar 5P.i. high- and low-level, top-hung casements and matching fixed lights were internally beaded and fitted with stainless-steel projecting friction hinges and an integral restrictor. Duco trickle vents through Comar head extension bars, providing minimum free airflow of 8,000mm2 per vent, were also installed.
Comar 7 pivot doors were installed for the main entrance, and fitted with AXIM concealed overhead door closers with a 90º hold-open facility and anti-finger trap stiles. The pivot doors were internally beaded and glazed with 28mm DG units. A Cool-Lite SKN174 solar control outer pane providing a U-value of 1.2 was used, and all glass was toughened heat soaked.
All Comar systems were finished in a matt Dark Grey RAL 7016 colour polyester powder-coat to BS 6496.
All Comar approved fabricators are required to have the technical expertise to attend pre-site meetings and provide detailing. Anglia Fixing Ltd liaised closely with the specifiers to provide design advice and detailing which ensured the project ran smoothly and met site deadlines.
