Client: Cardiff University
Contractor: Stradform
Type of works: supply and installation of Stewart Milne's fastrack timber-frame system with pre-finished bathroom pods, for 511 bed spaces.
Stewart Milne Timber Systems England and Wales secured a second prestigious student accomodation project for Cardiff University at the North Road site in Cardiff.
The project is the second to be supplied to contractor, Stradform, and builds on the company's excellent product and service provided for its first project at Blackweir Terrace, which was completed ahead of schedule.
This recognises the growing reputation that Stewart Milne Timber Systems has in the Welsh marketplace, where the company has approximately a 20% market share.
The project was for 511 bed spaces, with an overall build programme of 30 weeks and a total contract value of £1.9 million. The timber-frame project was started in November 2004, and is one of the largest projects undertaken by Witney. The superstructure was completed in June 2005, with the whole project finished for the 2005 student intake in September.
Both projects used the Stewart Milne Timber Systems fastrack timber-frame system with pre-finished bathroom pods, loaded in during the frame erection by SMTS.
This builds on the excellent team-working and project delivery that was achieved on the previous project. This resulted in Stewart Milne Timber systems being the client's preferred choice, against stiff competition which had offered a lower price in the market.
