Project
D+H UK are proud to be associated with this prestigious Salford development by Domis Construction.
The once brownfield site on the interchange between The Crescent and Oldfield Road has been transformed into 399 apartments and seven townhouses. LOCAL Crescent consists of three separate but interlinked blocks and a two-level underground car park with car lift.
System
Mechanical Smoke Extract (MSE) systems are installed in each of the blocks and the car park.
D+H UK worked closely with Domis, Aberla, NOVO Integration and Omega Fire to ensure the complex smoke control equipment was integrated into the building fabric.
MSE allows the architect to create longer corridors on the apartment floors. Two balanced extract shafts simultaneously remove smoke whilst a centrally positioned certified window provides fresh or replacement air.
All staircases are linked to the MSE control system to clear smoke, providing means of escape and access for fire fighters. The system design was verified and proven by extensive testing and commissioning in conjunction with the M&E specialists.
Maintenance
D+H UK also maintain these systems. It is crucial that the systems undergo regular maintenance and functional testing to ensure that if they are ever needed, all aspects are in full working order. D+H UK are active members of the Smoke Control Association and have third party certification, thus, are best placed to carry out the service and maintenance requirements at LOCAL Crescent.
