SSQ were specified to provide their roofing slates for the construction of Cavendish Lodge in Bath.

William Bertram’s development is just a stone’s throw from Bath’s famous Royal Crescent and contains 20 luxury apartments in a neo-classical mansion set in landscaped grounds.

Bertram, who has worked as architect to the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall for many years, fought long and hard to overcome resistance from a number of conservation groups opposed to the project.

The development recreates a Georgian-style mansion house surrounded by its attendant outbuildings; a clear intention to provide a homogeneous setting to help blend the new with the not-so-new.

SSQ worked closely with Beaufort Homes during the design and construction of Cavendish Lodge to ensure the quality, colour and texture of the roofing slates chosen were in keeping with those used on the surrounding buildings and met English Heritage’s demanding approval.

Beaufort Homes were delighted with the result, commenting that SSQ Del Carmen roofing slates ‘provided a perfect complement’ to the Bath and Cotswold rubble-stone used throughout the area.
