Chapman Building, Salford University, Manchester

Client: Salford University
Type of works: supply of Access Lift Consultant’s Apollo platform lift.

ACL was asked to look at providing access to three floors of the Chapman Building at Salford University in Manchester as part of a major revamp of the facilities.

The architects envisioned a structure that provided an enclosed lift at ground-floor level, clear-glass panels on all 4 sides of the structure at the other two levels and, at the upper level, to have the lift arrive in the middle of the floor rather than against a wall, as is usually the case. Further requests were to minimise the pit requirement and have no separate pump/motor facility.

The end result, using the Apollo lift, which ACL distributes throughout the UK, solved all of the problems and resulted in an installation that has been very well received.
