Cheltenham Ladies’ College

Type of works: supply and installation of Longden solid timber doorsets.

The same craftsmanship and expertise that many of the UK’s finest and historic listed buildings have relied on has been chosen for the Cheltenham Ladies’ College.

Cheltenham Ladies’ College, an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18, founded in 1853 has been at the forefront of girls' education for over 150 years with a worldwide reputation for academic excellence and a great respect for their history. As such Longden doorsets, established in 1838, were the natural choice for the college, with a tradition of craftsmanship and a passion for preserving the English heritage.

38 solid timber, panelled doors were specified, including Sheraton flat panel and vertical boarded panel constructions, to meet performance characteristics of 30 minutes fire resistance.

The Longden range of solid timber, panelled doors is particularly suited to the restoration of historic and traditional buildings of all types. Able to meet modern performance criteria for fire resistance, smoke control, security and sound reduction, Longden solid timber doorsets can help ensure the longevity of historic buildings. For example, fire-resistant doorsets are the most effective means of protecting historic buildings from the spread of fire and smoke, without the damaging after-effects of sprinkler systems.

Longden solid timber doorsets have been gracing some of the UK’s finest buildings, including schools and colleges, for well over a hundred years. Projects include Fettes College in Edinburgh, the Bluecoat School in Liverpool and Magdalen College School in Oxford.
