UKs low carbon ambitions
A significant amount of new infrastructure is being constructed in the UK to support existing towns and cities. These infrastructure networks support the provision of services, including energy, water and sanitation, transport, and waste collection and treatment.
The design, construction, maintenance and operation of this infrastructure will have a significant impact on the UKs levels of green house gas emissions and the governments ability to meet its ambitious carbon reduction targets.
Furthermore, the carbon performance of the UK built environment will come under increased scrutiny in the lead up to the Copenhagen Summit in December 2009, at which a successor to the Kyoto protocol is due to be signed.
About the ICE inquiry
The Institution of Civil Engineers is conducting a major new inquiry into how civil engineering infrastructures can be designed, developed, maintained and operated to deliver significant reductions in carbon emissions against current levels.
The inquiry will examine the policy changes needed to facilitate the delivery of infrastructure which will facilitate the transition to a low-carbon economy, and consider the changes to engineering practices required to deliver this vision.
CIEF, a knowledge-sharing and networking catalyst
This event hosted by ICE, is organised by CIEF, and is open to all interested parties from throughout the construction and demolition industry. Like many CIEF events, it will provide an opportunity to hear the latest from key experts on low-carbon options for construction, along with the opportunity to feed into ICEs State of the Nation Low Carbon Infrastructure inquiry.
Civil infrastructure professionals such as clients, designers, contractors and public asset managers are encouraged to attend. They will receive an update on low carbon infrastructure and learn about how key market leaders believe infrastructure can be designed, developed, maintained and operated to deliver significant reductions in carbon emissions. In addition, delegates will have the exceptional opportunity to feed into ICEs State of the Nation Low Carbon Infrastructure inquiry.
