The Challenge
Family company Surber Metallbau AG is the new occupant of the property at Lagerstrasse 10. Built in the 1950s, this building is the former headquarters of Koenig Feinstahl.
After acquiring the site, the new owner wanted to fully renovate the new company headquarters to meet the latest energy standards. as Along with the company’s factory halls, the building will house seven stories of modern office space, which will be available for rent.
The Solution
The building has been modernized and energy optimized. The facade, manufactured and installed by Surber Metallbau AG itself, consists of a combination of photovoltaic elements and smart solar protection glazing.
The glazing is the innovative SageGlass Classic triple-glazed insulating glass by SageGlass, a Saint-Gobain company. The electrochromic glass darkens or lightens, depending on the amount of sunlight. It provides optimal levels of daylight, while preventing glare.
In addition, it offers thermal comfort by preventing overheating with its dynamic tinting function. The building has also been connected to the district heating to further reduce its CO2 footprint.
The Benefits
The high-rise building was converted into a modern, sustainable office building. The new building offers more space, light and flexibility.
The building has not only been energy-optimized – employees will find everything they need for their well-being: showers, storage rooms, parking spaces (some indoors), a roof terrace with a sweeping view of the Limmat valley, and optimal lighting and shading, thanks to the dynamic solar protection glazing.
